Upgraded playspaces across the Penrith LGA are now open
Two flagship playgrounds at Margaret Porter Reserve and Myrtle Road Reserve have re-opened after eight-month renovations.
Children swarmed the new climbing frames at Myrtle Road Reserve on Saturday as Penrith City Council formally re-opened two of the LGA's most-loved playgrounds after a $3.4 million joint upgrade.
The refurbished playspaces at Margaret Porter Reserve in St Marys and Myrtle Road Reserve in Werrington include all-abilities equipment, shaded seating for carers, and Australia's first locally-fabricated 'tactile soundscape' wall, developed in partnership with Vision Australia.
Mayor Todd Carney said the projects were funded equally by Council and the state's Active Kids Places programme. "Every child in Penrith should be within fifteen minutes of a great playground," he said. "That's our standard, and we are nine projects away from meeting it."
Three more reserves — at Cambridge Park, Glenmore Park and South Penrith — will be upgraded over the 2026-27 financial year.
