Preparing for future parking needs in Penrith CBD
Council has chosen Union Road as the preferred location for a future multi-deck car park that could provide more than 700 additional spaces.
Council has formally selected Union Road as the preferred site for a future multi-deck car park in the Penrith CBD, with capacity for more than 700 additional vehicles and electric-vehicle charging on every level.
Following endorsement at the 20 April ordinary meeting, design and construction will now be programmed, with detailed design tendered in late 2026 and construction expected to begin in mid-2027.
The project is estimated to cost $84 million, funded through a combination of Council reserves, a state government CBD revitalisation grant and a future user-pays parking model that will see the structure operate on a tiered hourly tariff.
Two other sites — Belmore Street and Worth Street — were considered but ruled out on flood-planning and heritage grounds respectively.
