Sizzling out: Penrith's Barbeques Galore store to close
A plan to save the wider Barbeques Galore business has collapsed, and the Penrith store will close its doors next month.
The Barbeques Galore store at Penrith Homemaker Centre will close after a private-equity restructuring proposal failed to attract sufficient backing from creditors, administrators FTI Consulting confirmed late Tuesday.
The Penrith store, which has traded on Mulgoa Road for more than two decades, employs 14 staff. All positions will be made redundant when the store closes on 5 July, although administrators confirmed entitlements will be paid in full from the wind-down fund.
Administrator Vaughan Strawbridge said a rolling closing-down sale would begin this weekend and continue until stock is cleared. Honoring of existing warranties has been transferred to manufacturers Weber, Beefeater and Masport.
The closure leaves a 2,100-square-metre vacancy in a centre already grappling with the recent loss of two anchor tenants. Centre owner Aliro Group declined to comment on prospective replacements.
